To help you shine before, during and after your next job interview, here are ten tips to keep in mind. Some missteps may seem like common sense, but they’re surprisingly common!
1. Not Too Early, Not Too Late Showing up to an interview late is never a good look. But also it’s important not to arrive too early, particularly first thing in the morning. 2. Keep Parking in Mind Find your parking spot and get to know the location in advance, then you can walk in the door with a calm head. 3. Come by Yourself It’s good etiquette not to bring family members with you to your interview. Show up alone, and leave the moral support at home. 4. Consider Your Footwear Always make sure to bring a pair of socks or inside shoes when packing for your interview. 5. Don't Forget Your Resume Before you head out the door, make sure you have a copy of your resume in hand! It is always a good idea to bring an extra copy for all persons interviewing you. 6.Prepare Your Questions Job interviews are a two-way street. So before showing up, come up with a few questions to ask, and show that you’re the kind of person to take initiative and do your research. 7. A Smile Goes a Long Way Make sure your nerves don’t make you forget to smile! It’s a simple thing, but it makes a big difference in showing your confidence and friendliness. 8. Express Your Thanks At the end of your interview, remember to show your gratitude to the interviewer for their time. 9. Use Restraint When Following Up Give the employer time to get back to the agency before following up too many times. Patience is challenging, but don’t pick up the phone too soon. 10. Practice Makes Perfect Don’t assume you’ll get the position in advance. Go into the interview with your best efforts being put forward, but remember that not every opportunity will be for you. And no matter the outcome, you’ll gain valuable practice with each interview.
